Just Born Milk Replacer for Kittens Powdered Formula Indications

JUST BORN® Milk Replacer for Kittens Powdered Formula is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only.

Directions For Use

Your veterinarian should be consulted for advice about the care and feeding of kittens. Directions for Preparation and Use: Weigh the kitten. Prepare enough JUST BORN®, with the enclosed measuring scoop, for use within a 24 hour period. Kittens should be fed at least 1/2 ounce of liquid JUST BORN® for every 2 ounces of body weight, daily. Kittens should be allowed to consume as much formula as they want. The table below gives minimum feeding amounts for a 24 hour period. Mix 1 tablespoon powder into 1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon water. Use tap or bottled water. Stir until smooth. Pour liquid into an appropriate sized, clean Just Born® nursing bottle. Heat liquid by placing bottle in a pan of tepid water. Test temperature on your wrist. It should feel lightly warm. Do not microwave. Store JUST BORN® powder in the refrigerator. Refrigerate unused reconstituted liquid for up to 24 hours. 1. Measure water. 2. Mix in JUST BORN®. 3. Stir until smooth. 4. Feed at temperature that feels slightly warm on your wrist. 5. Refrigerate unused portion. After feeding, hold the kitten's head on your shoulder and rub his back gently until he burps. Make water available after kittens are 2 weeks old. Farnam small animal water bottles are recommended. Orphaned Kittens: If possible, kittens should nurse from their mother for the first 2 days of their lives to receive nutrient rich colostrum. Mother's colostrum provides temporary protection from numerous diseases and contains growth factors believed to stimulate protein synthesis, improve fat utilization, and promote cell growth. While mother's milk is always preferable, JUST BORN® contains nutrient rich colostrum milk powder harvested at USDA inspected facilities. It is extremely important to weigh kittens frequently (every day) to insure they are receiving adequate amounts of supplement. If a kitten loses weight after 48 hours, consult your veterinarian. Feed weak or small kittens every 4 hours, feed at 8 hour intervals if strong and active. Kittens' needs will vary and the time and amount may have to be increased or decreased, depending on the breed, growth rate and activity of the kitten. Orphan kittens must be kept warm for proper digestion to occur. Also, use a warm, moist washcloth and gently wipe the kitten's bottom until it wets and has a bowel movement, several times daily, to imitate a mother's care. This is required for young kitten survival. Weaning Kittens: Healthy kittens may be weaned when they are about 25 days old or when they can lap formula from a bowl. At this age, blend a high quality dry kitten food with warm Just Born® Liquid Formula to make a paste. Feed the mixture 3-4 times a day for the first week. Each week, increase the amount of dry food in the mixture so that after 6-7 weeks the kitten is fully on dry food. Pregnant and Lactating Queens: Mix 1 tablespoon of prepared JUST BORN® Milk Replacer per 5 pounds of body weight into the pregnant queen's daily ration. Continue until the kittens are weaned. Supplementation: If a supplement is desired for a growing kitten, show cat, large litter, geriatric or convalescing cat, simply mix 1 tablespoon of prepared JUST BORN® Milk Replacer per 5 pounds of body weight into the cat's daily ration of food. JUST BORN® Milk Replacer is also available in a ready-to-use liquid. If you have questions or comments about JUST BORN® Milk Replacer, call Farnam's Technical Staff at 1-800-234-2269.
