Pigeon Pox Vaccine
Live Virus
For Veterinary Use Only
Directions For Use
Recommendation For Use
This product is a live virus vaccine of chicken embryo origin for use as an aid in the prevention of fowl pox in chickens and turkeys. When administered to susceptible birds, a mild form of the disease results which stimulates immunity. No vaccine confers immediate protection against fowl pox. While immunity begins to develop immediately, it takes 2 to 3 weeks for birds to establish maximum immunity to fowl pox following vaccination, during which time they should not be placed in contaminated premises nor other wise exposed to fowl pox.
Directions For Use
This product is used for initial vaccination and revaccination of chickens and turkeys. This product can also be used for chickens and turkeys in production. Vaccination is recommended in six-week-old or older chickens by the wing-web method. Turkeys at six weeks of age or older are vaccinated by the thigh method.
Preparation Of Vaccine
1000 DOSE - REHYDRATE TO 10 ML
Open the vaccine vial by removing the aluminum tear seal and rubber stopper. Open the diluent and pour a small quantity of diluent into the bottle of vaccine, replace the stopper and shake well. Pour the mixture back into the bottle containing the remainder of the diluent and then shake mixture vigorously. Do not open or mix the vaccine until ready to use.
Method Of Vaccination
In chickens, vaccination is accomplished by dipping a double needle or a single needle in the mixed vaccine and piercing the “web of the wing” from the underside. Do not apply through the feathers, muscle or bone. The applicator must be re-dipped between each application.
In turkeys, vaccination is accomplished by applying the vaccine in the thigh. For this purpose, a few feathers are removed from the inner side of the thigh. The vaccine is brushed into the resulting follicles. The brush must be re-dipped after each application.
Birds from the flock should be examined for evidence of a “take” to insure that the vaccine was applied properly.
The evidence of a successful vaccination will appear at the point of vaccination in 7 to 10 days after vaccination. In chickens brownish, black scabs will be found on both the under and upper surfaces of the web of the wing through which the needle vaccinator was thrust. In turkeys, the scabs form on the feather follicles where the vaccine was applied.
Storage
Store vaccine between 2-7°C (35-45°F).
Precautions
All susceptible birds on any farm should be vaccinated at the same time. If this is not possible, individual lots may be vaccinated if strict isolation and separate caretakers are provided for the vaccinated and unvaccinated lots of birds.
If there are susceptible laying birds on the premises, there is the possibility that the virus might spread from the vaccinated to the susceptible birds and affect egg production.
Vaccinate only healthy birds.
Use entire contents when a vial is first opened.
Burn this container and all unused contents.
Keep permanent vaccination records including vaccine serial number.
Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.
The use of this vaccine is subject to State laws wherever applicable.
Vaccine contains Gentamicin as a preservative.
This vaccine has been carefully produced and has passed all tests for purity and potency according to the requirements of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
